- Item:
Enameled Dish SOLD
- Artist/Designer:
Ellamarie and Jackson Woolley
- Description:
A unique and early work that features an unusual Woolley treatment
of amoeba -like or undersea forms. Produced before 1950, this dish
is numbered 144! By the early 70s they had made over 5,000 dishes,
and they are all numbered. The inclusion of a title: “Placid
People,” and the absence of any counter enamel make this a very
distinctive piece from the formative years of the Woolley partnership.
This example even pre-dates their earliest production orders commissioned
by Gumps of San Francisco which are also signed “Woolley Enamels,
for Gumps” and number around the low 200s. In the typical circular
fashion, the bottom of this dish is etched: *Woolley Enamels*California*
