- Designer/Maker:
Ross F. Littell – Known for his fabric and furniture designs,
Littell received a degree in industrial design from New York’s
Pratt Institute and, at the age of twenty five, won an award from
the American Institute of Decorators for a low coffee table that he
designed.
He and fellow Pratt Institute
class-mates William Katavolos and Douglas Kelley would together
design acclaimed furniture for Laverne during the 1950’s,
including the “T” Chairs and “New York”
seating group. In his designs Littell displayed his fascination
with geometry, nature and motion. He also created innovative fabric
patterns based on the rhythmic movements of arithmetic combinations.
After many years in Copenhagen and Italy, where he designed for
Unika Vaev and DePadova, Littell moved to Santa Barbara where he
died in 1999.
