survey exhibition known as “Objects USA,” which opened

Description:
A fine example of Lane’s “Clay Painting”
which he developed
in the 1960s. In it’s original wood frame and backing. Unsigned,
as many
of these were, but authenticity is guaranteed.
This technique, on a larger scale, was utilized for many outdoor mural
commissions in Southern California. About his clay painting, Lane
said:
“Why not take paintings out of doors where one may sit and watch
the
changing play of sunshine on the glazes, and thus have changes of
mood
during the day?”
