Item: Norman Conn – Exhibition Poster

Designer/Maker: D’Arcy Galleries, New York/ Norman Conn (d. 2003) was a licensed architect who practiced in New York and Connecticut. He did his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia and graduate work at University of Michigan. He was honored to be one of two people selected worldwide for a scholarship to study in the summer program of the Ecole des Beaux-Arts at Fontainebleau, France. His passion was painting in various mediums including oils, water colors, lithographs, pen and ink and wood sculpture. His work has been shown in New York and Connecticut.

Description: Exhibition poster for Norman Conn Constructions In Wood And Metal at D’Arcy Galleries, New York City. For this circa early 1960s show, Conn is said to have been “gathering his inspiration from the things men have made and used – gleaning an aura from the commonplace, the artist offers us new vision.” This mailer unfolds to reveal a detail image of the artist’s work, Construction #1.

Condition: Good with some light loss of the paper top layer on outside that does not affect the poster image.
