Item: Jo Roper Bronze Sculptural Plaque

Designer/Maker: Jo Roper – Former member of the New Mexico Designer Craftsmen during the 1960s along with Lee Weber and Alice Parrott. She studied at Cranbrook, where she received an MFA in sculpture. Known for midcentury modern sculpture and architectural works in stone and cast bronze. Included in the American Craftsmen’s Council publication/register Craftsmen of the Southwest. See page included in slideshow images. Like the artists Jack Boyd, Maurice Grossman, Lee Weber, Ben Goo, Paolo Soleri, and Alice Parrott, Jo Roper’s work was sold through the Dick Seeger Design Gallery in Scottsdale, Arizona at the Lloyd Kiva Crafts Center.

Description: A scarce abstract relief plaque in cast bronze by Jo Roper. Made while she was living in Montezuma, N.M. Very heavy and with typically great organic imagery. Signed and dated 1976.
